This badge set has been something I've been working on for a lil' while now, and I'm pretty psyched to finally have it ready for release at The Dept store. Space 1999 was my absolute favorite tv series as a kid, the set design, space ships, uniforms, insignias and logos designed for the show were really top notch. I can't really say the same for the show's writing, and the crazy premise of the entire moon being propelled through space after a huge nucleur explosion, but all that aside, it's still enjoyable to watch. I had originally created some of the graphics for a poster, but decided they would be cooler on badges for people to show off. I'm planning to release a few more badge sets in the upcoming months, so keep an eye open. The Space 1999 badge set is now available at The Dept. Get yours today!

Ming the Merciless, The Hawkmen, Dr. Zarkov and all sorts of classic crazy's show up for this 1980 Movie version of Flash Gordon. The kickn' theme and soundtrack was performed by Queen.

The FX for the 1980 Flash movie have an updated, and intentional, nod back to the aesthetics of the original Flash Gordon serial released in the 1930's. The costumes and hats on some of the characters are so ridiculous, but great.

Where Do I begin here... this video is fantastic on so many levels. Become one with OMEGA, rock-on and enjoy!

One of my favorite Omega album covers. Notice the typeface, it's Letraset's press-type "Yagi Link Double", designed by Robert Trogman. I remember using Letraset press type for everything back in the day (it was the workingman's pre-digital quick and affordable typographic alternative). It was great, you could rub it down on anything: metal, plastic, glass, wood, and skin. The only problem of course that it was easy to scrape off.

A version of "Yagi Link Double" was recently released as "Miyagi" by the HypeForType foundry.

Having an 80's flashback moment. When I was a Jr. high punk kid, I couldn't wait to see this film. I was there opening weekend when it was shown at my local theater, the Chelmsford Cinema 3. It's the same theater where I first saw Star Wars, Rocky, and Indiana Jones. I think it's demolished now, nothing more than a parking lot for a Walmart.

Great Logotype for this old Sci-Fi B-movie. Where else would you see something as crazy- wild as this today? Definitely one of my new favorite logotypes.

I plan to post some preliminary ideas for new products at The Dept. on this blog, from time to time, and It would be great to get your suggestions and/or feedback. To kick off this idea series, I found these very colorful and eye catching belts, from a manufacturer here in the US. I mocked up the 2 samples below to get an idea of how they might look. They have unlimited color selections for both the buckle and the belt strap. So what are your thoughts on these type of belts? Would you like to see them at The Dept.? Android Stole My Ride!

Two new T-shirts, inspired by my favorite sci-fi show Battlestar Galactica. The design was based on the old school 1979 BSG MK-1 viper. Visit The Dept. store.

Here is the cool opening theme from the late 1970's Battlestar Galactica. The masterful narration still gives me the chills, very well done. In this vid You'll see a glimpse the original MK-1 vipers and BSG logo, which served as the inspiration for this special T-shirt. As a kid, I always freaked out every Sunday night when the show started, good times! Enjoy!
